A trip through time is what our group of Kuckucksvoegel, history and vintage fashion lovers, experienced at the Stedelijk Museum in Breda! Intrigued by an exhibition titled 'Worn Stories', we embarked on a journey across centuries where garments not only told tales but also shared secrets about their past inhabitants.
Curated with exceptional care by Amanda Elshout, each piece displayed resonated deeply with our interest for historical fashion. What made this experience even more captivating was the way it was presented - barriers such as protective glass or distance, we could closely examine the structure and craftsmanship of these garments.
The exhibition brought to life stories of Breda's late residents through the medium of their attire, allowing us to delve into how fashion served as a mirror reflecting social status, cultural influences, and changing times. Each garment was more than just a piece; it was a link back in time.
A special thank you goes out to Amanda Elshout for her insightful insights which enriched our experience at the museum. This visit is highly recommed not just by us but also my fris who joined this journey with me:
Frl. Clara @FrlClaraRufflesSteam - who shares her passion for Victorian era dresses and historical fashion through ruffles and steam,
Valerio Bonanno @ValerioBonanno, whose insights on the Edwardian period provide a unique view into the late 19th century attire,
Jannik Schwind @JannikSchwind contributes his expertise on historical sewing methods making this museum experience more educational.
Exploring these ‘Worn Stories’ offered us a window into history that was both educational and entertning. The Stedelijk Museum of Breda should definitely be added to your travel wishlist if you share our interest in vintage fashion, historical garments or are simply intrigued by the ability to connect with past times through such an immersive experience.
